How are Yanfly Plugins compatible with FOSSIL when the Core Engine is not?

I originally started a project in MV and am remaking it in MZ, though after bringing in all of my plugins and fiddling around a bit, I've discovered there is a problem occurring with YEP_CoreEngine and FOSSIL.
I looked at the list of compatible plugins and the Core isn't on there, but isn't that required for the rest of them to work, and if it is then why are the rest compatible?
