    Now, this is a topic that was in my mind a couple of weeks back: how to port MZ games to Android, and it was a small wild ride, to say the least.

    For context, RPG Makers MV and MZ give you the option to export to mobile devices, it's one of the reasons why the Touch UI is a thing. Though, from my research, it's quite a hassle to get there, and the stuff that IS there is a hit or miss. There aren't many tutorials on how to do that with MV, and MZ is just... nearly a wasteland. The most common way I've seen people do that was with Android Studio, since these games were exported as an HTML file and not an APK or IPA.

    I've personally tried the Android Studio method, and I dunno if I'm stupid, but I kept getting error after error while the tutorial did it flawlessly, and I've been told that while they were meant for MV, they also work for MZ, but the issues I was getting was probably from my version of Android Studio and how it's interpreting the methods, and since I feel like I don't know any better I just quit.

    There are also these programs that turn websites/HTML files into APKs, but they were also hit or miss. So, I decided to search in the next option I have: Google Play Store itself, and to my shock, I discovered a few apps that can actually play RPG Maker games. They all vary of course, one of them plays 2000/2003 games, and another can play XP games. And I did find an app that does work for MV and MZ games, an app called MaldiVes.

    MaldiVes, like I said, is made to play MV/MZ games, and I've been toying around with it lately, and to my surprise, based on my own testings, it's really good! The best part is that it's free and anyone can download it. Yeah, it has premium in-app purchases, but those are only for a few extra features you most likely won't need, and to remove ads, which in my experience, only pop up when you boot up a game and they're incredibly rare to even show up, but the option is there if you need it.

    Here's an example of an MZ game running in MaldiVes. It uses MogHunter's Chrono Engine with Fossil (made a post about the Chrono Engine working in MZ here if you're curious), UltraMode7, and HUD Maker Ultra.

    Since I feel like nobody talks about it, and that there are people out there that would probably want to port their games to Android, I decided to compile this little tutorial on how to do it. Now, I'm gonna be using MZ for this tutorial, and I'm gonna be speaking for Android here, since I'm an Android person and I'm more familiar with it. I don't know if there's a technique similar to this on the App Store, nor do I know how iPhones and iPads work exactly unfortunately. So, I'm sorry to all of the Apple users out there.

    But with that said, let's get into it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
    Step 1 - Deploy the Game
    The first step to do is to, obviously, deploy the game. Since I'm using MZ, the option with Android and iOS is with the Web Browsers option. Again, they're HTML files, so click on that.
    Now, you've probably already seen this in the image, and I'm gonna tell you right now that it's important, encrypt your image and audio files. This is, in my opinion, a must-do, because if you don't, your Android device will see those images and add them to your gallery app, and possibly add the music to the music player if it supports OGG files. And they can be easily modified, moved, or worse, deleted if tampered with them, potentially causing errors in your game stopping it entirely if these files are missing or moved.
    By encrypting them, your device won't detect them, and you'll be safe from those kinds of errors happening at all. You'll only be left with three folders, but if your game isn't using any of them, you can safely delete them (you can even delete the icon image after you import the game to MaldiVes)
    Step 2 - Transfer the Game to Your Android Device of Choice
    This is a straight-forward one, connect your device to your computer via USB or whatever means you're comfortable with, and then transfer them to wherever you want on your phone.
    You can compress your game into a ZIP file and make MaldiVes extract it for you, but there's not a difference going for a ZIP file or not. All you need is to transfer the game to your device and that's it.
    Step 3 - Install MaldiVes and Set Up the Game
    Now, onto the meat and potatoes. When you open up the app, it'll look something like this:
    You have two options to import the game:
    • You click on the "Add A Game" button where you have to locate the folder where the game's HTML file is located.
    • Or you can click on "Unpack a Game" in which you locate the game's ZIP file and let the program extract it for you.
    With that, you have the game imported and added to the list of games available. Tap on the game you want to play and you'll be greeted with this screen:
    The list of checkboxes is there if you're experiencing any issues with the game. Personally, I haven't experienced any issues myself when testing, but if you're experiencing any issues, you may want to use these. On the bottom, you have the option to run the game, remove it, or mess with the game's plugins (yeah, you can do that).
    And that's the main important stuff. There's also an options menu in the app's home page, like adjusting the compatibility settings, ignore errors and alert dialogs, mess with the performance settings, adjust the settings for the virtual gamepad and keyboard, and access a cheat menu! (don't know what you'd use it for other than development purposes, but it's there heh).
    And before I forget, yes, MaldiVes also has controller support, so if you want to play this game with say a Nintendo. Xbox, or PlayStation controller, you can do that as well!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    And that's how you play MV and MZ games on Android. I'm actually surprised that this doesn't get talked at all because I think MaldiVes is a great and impressive piece of software that's really worth checking out if you really want to get your MV and MZ games on Android, considering how easy and quick it is to set up and use compared to trying to use something like Android Studio or whatever. But I hope I managed to help you guys with this, and it helps anyone who wants to port their games to Android with little to no hassle.
