How to Make a Pause Menu when Main Menu is Disabled
Originally published on RPGMakerGameReviews.com:I wanted to make a way for players to stop the action on the screen while also disabling them from entering the Main Menu. A separate Pause Menu was the solution I came up with. And it was very easy to implement.
Here’s how to do it.
1. Download and install Yanfly’s plugin for Button Common Events. Assign any key to call a Common Event that will start your Pause Menu. I used space bar to call Common Event 7.

2. Make the first action in your Common Event be to turn on a switch. You’ll use that switch in all of your map events in the next step.

As you can see from my example, you can also use this Pause Menu to display key information to your player, such as Gold or the Health of the lead character.
It’s also nice to show the word “Paused” so that players are clear on why the action stopped.
The last two lines of your Common Event should provide the choice to resume the game and to turn off the switch that the Common Event began with.
3. Set all of your moving Map Events to either stop moving or disappear when the Pause Switch is on. Do this on the last page of each event so that it activates whenever the player enters Pause mode. The Events will resume normal action when the player unpauses the game.
